For the City Times

With the cooperation of the Wisconsin Rapids School District, the City of Wisconsin Rapids operates three polling places for voting in elections in the city. Polling places are Mead School for west side voters and Howe and Grove Schools for east side voters. East side residents who live north of Riverview Expressway vote at Howe School, and east side residents who live south of Riverview Expressway vote at Grove School.

Elections for mayor, clerk, treasurer, city attorney, municipal judge, and alderpersons from even-numbered wards are held in April of even-numbered years. Elections for alderpersons from odd-numbered wards are held in April of odd-numbered years. School district, county, and state non-partisan offices also are elected in April. Partisan elections are held in November.

Persons must be registered in order to vote. Voter registration may be done at the city clerk’s office at any time during the year or at the polls on election day. Basic requirements for voting are: 18 years of age; a citizen of the United States; a resident of the voting district for at least 28 consecutive days; and not currently serving a sentence including probation or parole for a felony conviction, and not otherwise disqualified from voting.

Absentee ballots are available at the city clerk’s office for voters who are confined to home by illness or age or cannot get to the polls on election day. Application for an absentee ballot must be done in writing, and absentee ballots can only be cast at the clerk’s office or obtained from the clerk’s office by mail before each election.

Polling places are open on election days from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Voter registration information and records, polling place information, check on the status of an absentee and provisional ballots can be found at the Voter Information Center
