Mid-State Technical College will host the first spotlight of its allied health programs during National Allied Health Professions Week in conjunction with the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS).

The Spotlight on Allied Health takes place on the College’s Marshfield campus on Thursday, November 10, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The event includes refreshments and is free and open to the public.

Allied health encompasses all patient care not performed by nurses and doctors and accounts for 60 percent of all healthcare providers. The allied health event promises to be an informative and engaging way for community members, employers, and prospective students to gain a better understanding of these careers and the positive impacts that highly trained Mid-State graduates have on local healthcare.

Event participants will be able to explore five hands-on demo stations of Mid-State’s allied health programs, including Respiratory Therapist, Medical Assistant, Central Service Technician, Surgical Technologist and Phlebotomy Technician. The event will also feature remarks from Dr. Matthew Janssen, director of education at Marshfield Clinic Health System, and from prominent members of the WTCS and department of public instruction, as well as a showcase of Mid-State student graduates.

“The allied health programs at Mid-State Technical College are designed to develop the talents and skills of our student population according to the needs of area employers,” said Lori Weigel, Mid-State’s Associate Dean of Service and Health. “This event is an exciting collaboration between our dedicated instructors and the engaged group of healthcare providers and institutions that work closely with them and our students to maximize clinical experience and training.”
