Walking School Bus Needs Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to walk children to school.
The local Safe Routes to School program needs concerned and committed adult volunteers right now for the Walking School Bus. Adult volunteers will pick up small groups of students in front of their homes and lead them safely to school while they hold on to a rope. Those interested are encouraged to apply today to be an adult volunteer for the Safe Routes to School program.
“It’s a small donation of your time but it could pay huge dividends to our young ones,” said Safe Routes to School Coordinator Beverly Ghiloni. “If we can get kids into the routine of safely crossing streets and getting to school, they may be more likely to practice safety outside of school in the summer and throughout the year.”
Participatings schools are Howe and Mead Elementary School.
The walking school bus operates Tuesday through Thursday mornings during the fall and spring seasons.
