Register to Volunteer for Day of Caring by Nov. 1

For the City Times
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Volunteers have just over one week to pre-register for Day of Caring, the United Way’s annual raking event to benefit local elderly and disabled.
Volunteers are strongly encouraged to pre-register so they will be guaranteed a t-shirt. However, people can still volunteer if they haven’t pre-registered; they simply need to come out to the event.
Day of Caring will be Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017. The event will begin with a free pancake breakfast at 8AM at the Grand Rapids Lion’s Club, 2411 36th St. South, Wisconsin Rapids. Afterwards, volunteers will receive their raking assignments and free t-shirts.
The United Way will also be collecting personal care items for Acorn Apartments, a local apartment building for disabled individuals.
Team leaders need to pre-register their volunteer groups online by Nov. 1 at www.uwiw.org (click on the Day of Caring banner). Youth under the age of 18 must have waiver signed by a parent or guardian (available at www.uwiw.org). Volunteers need to provide their own rakes, gloves, and transportation. Younger volunteers are strongly encouraged to be supervised by an adult. Home owners will provide the bags (if needed).
Special thanks go out to this year’s t-shirt sponsors: the Wisconsin Rapids Noon Rotary Club, Wisconsin Rapids Kiwanis Club and the Port Edwards Lion’s Club. Thank you to our breakfast sponsors: Kwik Trip, Ocean Spray, Pepsi and Wal-Mart. We would also like to give a huge “thank you” to the Grand Rapids Lion’s Club for the use of their facilities, providing volunteers and cooking.
