WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Mid-State Technical College is hosting a series of Dual Credit Information Night events for high school students and their parents to learn about ways to earn college credit during high school. The events take place from 5:30-7 p.m. across the College’s campuses on December 5 (Marshfield), 6 (Stevens Point) and 7 (Wisconsin Rapids), with an additional session available on December 13 at Adams-Friendship High School.

Each information session will outline the advantages of earning college credit during high school, including savings on college tuition and other fees while getting a head start on post-secondary education and career exploration, regardless of area of study. Participants will also learn about general enrollment at Mid-State and Mid-State’s Dual Credit program, which features Transcripted Credit, Dual Enrollment Academies and more.

According to Mid-State data, over 800 high school students took at least one dual credit course with Mid-State Technical College in the 2016-17 academic year, earning over 2,800 college credits and saving over $375,000 in tuition cost. “Clearly, dual credit programs can be a way for high school students to earn college credits for free,” said Xiong Vang, Mid-State’s pre-college specialist. “It also gives students a huge advantage when applying to colleges and scholarships,” he added.
