WISCONSIN RAPIDS — This holiday weekend, shoppers will be reminded to stay safe and financially savvy, but also to stay local.

Small Business Saturday kicks off nationwide, and well over a dozen local businesses will participate in the event, which will feature the very best Wisconsin Rapids has to offer. The event will feature a contest where shoppers can snap a selfie to win a $25 gift card, and take part in a shopping passport adventure to enter to win a $50 gift certificate. For more information on that, check out the event Facebook page here.

However, above all, regardless of contests, the message that remains on point is the importance of keeping it local.

“Supporting locally owned businesses we can all help preserve the character of our area by recirculating more money back into our community,” said Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce Director of Marketing Steph Schmid.  “Products purchased in the Heart of Wisconsin area build better roads, schools, parks and emergency services.”

Businesses that will take part in the selfie promotion this weekend are:

• Baker Street Grill
• South Wood County Humane Society
• Bet Detailing
• Daly Drug
• Blades Hair Studio
• Sun Tan City
• Home Furniture
• Rapid Rehab
• Kneaded Relief Massage
• Higher Grounds Bakery
• Bauers Floor
• Rocky Rococo
• Rustic Redefined
• Blu Play Café
• Shoe Sensation
• BowWow Meow Boutique
• Trading Post
• Rubi Reds
• Sweet Tea Clothing
• Off Yer Rocker
