Rafters fall to Bullfrogs in rain-shortened game
For the Rapids City Times
WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (20-24, 5-4 second half) dropped one to the Green Bay Bullfrogs (14-31, 2-7 second half) 15-1 as torrential rain forced the game to be delayed in the eighth and eventually called.
The Bullfrogs collected 15 runs on 18 hits. Green Bay scored eight runs on eight hits in the first, as the Frogs batted around on the Rafters. Wisconsin Rapids scored their sole run in the first as Ty Duvall (Vanderbilt) batted in Steven Rivas (Long Beach State) from third.
Three more Green Bay runs came home in the second off back-to-back home runs from Luke Robinson and Blaise Maris preceded an RBI sac fly from Eddy Gonzalez. The Frogs plated four more runs between fifth and seventh innings before the weather proved too much of a hinderance in the eighth.
Brecken Lewis suffered the loss (1-3) — his third loss of the season. Jason Applegate (2-2) was given the win — his second of the year.
