WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department, Wood County Sheriff’s Department, and Wood County Dispatch families, along with other emergency service organizations, are banding together in friendly competitions to raise funds for a playground to be constructed at the new YMCA.

In partnership with the Building Futures Together campaign, funds are being raised to name the new YMCA project playground in memory of Paige and Devon Bohn who tragically lost their lives on April 27, 2016. To honor Paige and Devon, the “Fly High Memorial Playground” will be a place “where children can build long lasting relationships, a place where kids can be kids, smile and have fun.”

To raise funds for the playground, the Rapids Police and Fire departments are competing in a “Battle of the Badges” t-shirt selling contest. The organization that sells the most by Aug. 22 will win bragging rights, while the losing side will hold a sign that says “(winning organization)…because even (losing organization) need heroes” and post a picture on their Facebook page.

T-shirts may be purchased from either department or by visiting https://madelolivares.bigcartel.com.

The cost to make Fly High Memorial Playground a reality is $150,000. As of Aug. 1, $130,000 has already been raised.

For more information, follow the Battle of the Badges Facebook event.
