Boy injured in car-bike crash

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – On Sept. 6, at about 7:03 a.m., the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department (WRPD), along with the Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department Paramedics, responded to a car-bike crash at the 25th Avenue South and Gaynor Avenue intersection in Wisconsin Rapids.
The bicyclist, a 12-year-old boy, was heading southbound on 25th Avenue South to the Wisconsin Rapids Area Middle School and failed to yield at the stop sign, rode across the Gaynor Avenue intersection, and was struck by a vehicle that was traveling eastbound on Gaynor Avenue.
The boy was injured, but conscious and talking at the scene. He was transported by ambulance to Aspirus Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids. The driver and passenger in the vehicle were not injured.
Assisting at the scene were the officers from the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, Paramedics from the Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department, and Wisconsin Rapids Area Middle School staff members.
The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet. In the hospital, WRPD officers presented him with a new helmet.
