For the Rapids City Times

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin Rapids Community Media (WRCM), a division of the city of Wisconsin Rapids Innovation and Technology Department, has named Tom Heiser as its 2018 Hall of Fame recipient.

This honor recognizes community volunteers for their dedication to service by providing local television/online programming to the Wisconsin Rapids area through community media.

Heiser is a Grand Rapids resident who is being honored for his television/online show “Thank You For Your Service,” a monthly series about local veterans who served in WWII, Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm. Heiser, has produced over 30 episodes and is currently working on his third program of the upcoming 2019 season. The show also earned an Achievement Award in 2017 during the Wisconsin Community Media annual Media Fest and Awards Banquet in Oshkosh.

“Documenting these stories before the veterans are deceased is very important,” said Heiser, also a Vietnam veteran. “It’s imperative that everyone knows what these men and women went through to provide us our freedom.”

To honor Mr. Heiser’s induction into WRCM’s Hall of Fame please tune into the latest episode of “Making Connections” with WRCM’s Multimedia Coordinator Tom Loucks debuting on Jan. 11 at 11:30 a.m.

This is the 23rd year WRCM has honored a Hall of Fame recipient.

“The choice is never easy, because we have so many dedicated and talented volunteers who spend countless hours sharing their passions through the lens of a video camera,” said Loucks.

“I am proud to see so many people engaging with the community by volunteering,” said Loucks. “The Wisconsin Rapids community is very fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers stepping forward to film these programs for everyone to see; especially for our shut-ins who don’t have the opportunity to attend these kinds of events in person.”
