For the City Times

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (9-8) trailed early, but woke up the bats to capture a 12-3 win over the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders (8-9) in a divisional matchup on June 13.

The Dock Spiders took a 3-0 lead on RBI doubles in the third and fifth innings. Wisconsin Rapids answered in the bottom of the sixth, with a six-run explosion. Two runs scored on a bases-loaded dropped third strike to put the Rafters on the board. Then, Davion Downey drove in two runs with an RBI double and Roman Trujillo added two more with an RBI single.

One inning later, Osvaldo Tovalin added to the Rafters 6-3 lead with a two-RBI double and Downey tacked on another run with a single to extend the Rafters lead to 9-3. Wisconsin Rapids put up another three-spot in the eighth to lead 12-3.

Cody Turner closed out the ninth inning to secure the win for the Rafters. Starter Neil Abbatiello gets the win with eight strikeouts in six innings. Dylan Mulvihill pitched two shutout innings in relief, holding Fond du Lac hitless. Houston Glad is credited with the loss in one-third innings pitched.

The Rafters hit the road for a June 14 matchup with the Green Bay Booyah at 7:05 p.m. Wisconsin Rapids returns home Saturday for a 6:05 p.m. game against the Booyah.
