RUDOLPH – Gail Heywood, of Rudolph, has been awarded the Wisconsin Music Teachers Association (WMTA) Excellence in Teaching Award.  The award is one of the state’s highest honors in teaching, presented to just two teachers.

Heywood received the award at the annual state teachers conference in Eau Claire on Oct. 18.  The WMTA Teacher Award of Excellence recognizes and promotes excellence in music teaching in the state by honoring individual members for their instructional expertise creativity and innovation in their studios; who make learning engaging, vibrant and relevant for students; and whose work and accomplishments set a standard of excellence for all teachers.

Heywood is a nationally certified teacher of music, who holds a master’s degree in music and has operated a private music studio since 1991 at Heid Music Company.

She is the choir director at St. Bartholomew Church in Stevens Point and currently serves as president of the Stevens Point Area Music Teachers Association.
