Letter to Editor: Reader advocates for Blaser
Dear editor,
I am a lifelong resident of Wisconsin Rapids and love the amazing YMCA/BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB/VA CLINIC Project that is connected to the Centralia Center. This complex built with mostly private monies, is visible proof that our city is “A City for All” whether we are city residents or live in one of the surrounding municipalities or townships.
As area residents we work, shop, worship, support local businesses and nonprofits, receive health care, volunteer, and more. Here is my concern. We all are impacted by city operations faster because local government is closer to us.
There has been a 43 percent increase in city debt load in eight years. In 2012 it was $15.8 million and if the city borrows the intended $4.475 million still needed for the aquatic center, the debt load will be $27.9 million. With this large debt service in each budget, the city will be strapped to cover much needed future services and projects.
I want our city to grow and thrive but we all know there will be changes after this coronavirus crisis.
I believe the city needs a change in the mayor’s office and Shane Blaser is the best candidate.
The debt level must be dealt with immediately and Shane will do that. He has wide city government experience and as a local businessman he knows the importance of budgeting, long-range planning, and teamwork. I know him and respect him. He is ready, willing, and able to meet the challenges as mayor of Wisconsin Rapids. Vote for Shane Blaser who as mayor will listen, work collaboratively, and lead a united city government to make our city the best it can be.
