Local Theatre Group Presents Summer Youth Production

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Wisconsin Rapids Community Theatre will present “Villain School” written by Brian D. Taylor and directed by Kayla Jukich, on July 14 and 15.
“You’d think they’d want to be out of school in the summer. Not these kids. Not when it’s the Villains’ Institute for Learning Evil (V.I.L.E.), where all the famous storybook villains go to learn their wicked ways.
Like any school, V.I.L.E. has its own social groups; the monsters; the Witches; the Convicts; the Misfits; and, last but not least, the Evil Geniuses, who rule the school from the top of the food chain. Think of Hogwarts with Snipe as headmaster.
But everything is turned upside down when the smart and talented new student Frank Stein challenges the status quo. Things get even worse when he falls head over heels with Heidi Jekyll, who wants absolutely nothing to do with him. Until a certain lab experiment goes awry, that is. Faced with potential expulsion and certain embarrassment, will the forces of evil ultimately tear them apart, or will true love prevail?”
Director Kayla Jukich takes on the challenge of keeping 30 young “villains” in line and teaching them all about theatre as they have more fun in school than they ever thought possible. WRCT’s summer youth show is completely produced by kids and young adults – from direction to set construction to lighting and sound.
The show is sponsored by U.S. Bank.
“Since May, they’ve been working hard at putting things together, constructing props and painting sets and learning lines,” said WRCT Executive Director Ellen Roeseler. “It’s a great summer program, and we are proud and thankful for the support of U.S. Bank. Villain School, is a fun outing for the whole family.”
The show runs July 14 & 15 at 7:00 p.m. and the 16th at 2:00 p.m. at the WRCT auditorium in the Centralia Center of the Rapids Mall. Tickets are $8 each and are available by calling the WRCT office at 715-421-0435, emailing the theatre at [email protected], or at the door prior to the show.
WRCT office hours are 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Tuesday – Friday. And new this year – online ticketing is available. Just go to the WRCT webpage – www.wrct.org – and click on the “Buy Tickets Now” link.
