PORT EDWARDS — Under the guidance of Tim Martin and Elle Bogdan, the fourth-grade class from The Port Edwards Elementary School have been busy constructing elongated flower beds and planting them with milkweed to feed the monarchs that will be raised in the Monarch Village Habitat located next to the Nekoosa Port Edwards State Bank.
The class will continue to plant more flowers this spring to sustain the monarchs during their growth cycle. Kathy McGrath, local monarch expert, is advising the class of special plant life that the butterflies will need to ready them for their migration to Mexico in late summer.
Mrs. McGrath and her husband, Pat, give presentations to further educate the community of the importance of sustaining the monarch butterfly. More information can be obtained by contacting Mrs. McGrath via Facebook under “Friends of the Monarch, Port Edwards”.
