Area voters to see contested races in city, school, and county

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Wisconsin Rapids area voters will see a few contested races for the April 5 election this spring.
The city of Wisconsin Rapids will see a contested mayor’s race with Nikkilas Robert Wix challenging Shane Blaser for his seat at the head of the council.
In District 6, Dennis Polach and Nikkilas Robert Wix will face off for the seat being vacated by Jake Cattanach.
Four candidates will also run unopposed for city council seats: Dean Veneman in District 2, Tom Rayome in District 4, Patrick J. Delaney in District 7, and Jay Bemke in District 8.
A primary will be held Feb. 15 for six candidates running for two open seats on the Wisconsin Rapids Public School Board. Incumbents Troy S. Bier and Mary Rayome are being challenged by Mike Derrie, Julie DesJarlais, Christopher D. Inda, and Adam Stublaski.
Four Wood County Board supervisor races are being contested in the April 5 election, where Tom Buttke will take on longtime incumbent Michael J. Feirer in District 3.
In District 4, Ed Wagner is being challenged by Russell Perlock. In District 7, incumbent Robert Ashbeck will face Bill Voight, and in District 9, Erik Backlund will take on incumbent William A. Winch.
