Aspirus Riverview is offering a seminar on the difficult discussion of the safety of aging drivers.

Aspirus invites all caregivers, families and concerned friends to attend the free AARP seminar, “We Need to Talk.” Occupational Therapist Kathy Bohman with Aspirus Riverview Therapies will discuss how to have a conversation with loved ones about remaining active and participating in the community when it is time to limit or stop driving.

By 2030, one in four drivers will be age 65 and older. More than 30 million older drivers will be on our nation’s roads. Their ability to remain safe on the road and mobile in their community can be compromised by changes in their health. The “We Need to Talk” seminar is designed to assist family and friends to have successful conversations with the older drivers in their lives. Among the topics covered:

  • Identifying opportunities to begin a conversation;
  • Recognizing the warning signs that indicate an older driver may need to limit or stop driving;
  • Developing a plan using alternate transportation so the older driver can stay connected to their community.

“We Need to Talk” will be held Tuesday, Dec. 8, from 5:30 PM to 7 PM in Aspirus Riverview Hospital’s lower level conference center at 410 Dewey St. in Wisconsin Rapids. Light refreshments will be served.

While the seminar is free, space is limited and advance registration is requested. To register, please call Aspirus Riverview Therapies at 715-424-8500.
