Wisconsin Rail Safety Week Hits Wisconsin Rapids
For the City Times
Events will showcase the importance of safe practices near railroad tracks and trains
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) is promoting Rail Safety Week in Wisconsin. This includes an opportunity for media to join Susie Klinger, State Coordinator for Operation Lifesaver, along with law enforcement, Federal Rail Administration and railroad representatives for train rides on the Union Pacific and Canadian National Railroads.
The Officer on the Train events will demonstrate the importance of exercising caution when approaching highway/railroad grade crossings. Operation Lifesaver volunteers are also visiting Wisconsin Rapids schools giving presentations to encourage safe habits at railroad crossings and discourage rail trespassing.
Operation Lifesaver is working to change people’s behavior around railroad tracks and crossings with the national public awareness campaign. Presentations for Wisconsin Rapids will be on Sept. 13.
Wisconsin Rapids presentations will be at the Canadian Pacific Yards, 812 Dura Beauty Lane at 11:00 a.m., Mead Elementary School, 241 17th Ave. South at 1:00 p.m., and at Washington Elementary School, 2911 Washington St., at 1:00 p.m.
