Brush Fire Engulfs an Abandoned Home in Richfield

According to a news release by the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, a brush fire occurred in the town of Richfield.
At approximately 7:17 p.m. last night, a call was received regarding a brush fire close to a house on the 7000 block of Bethel Rd. The fire would spread and eventually engulf the house, resulting in near total damage to the structure.
The structure was not being used as a residency, and was considered “abandoned”. A permit had been issued for burning brush close to this location, though the incident remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
Assisting in the incident include Richfield, Vesper, Arpin, Hewitt, Rock, Cameron and Pittsville fire departments, as well as the Wood County Fire Investigation Task Force and the Wisconsin DNR.
