Rafters sweep Bullfrogs

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (17-20, 2-0 second half) defeated the Green Bay Bullfrogs (12-26, 0-2 second half) by a final of 11-7. Five home runs were hit between both clubs, but the Rafters come out on top of the slugfest.
The Rafters struck first in the first. Brody Wofford (UCF) collected a lead-off single and Jack-Thomas Wold (UNLV) blasted a two-run home run to right. Green Bay responded with a lead-off home run hit by Matthew Acosta. Wisconsin Rapids scored in the third and fourth. Steven Rivas (Long Beach State) smashed his ninth home run of the season in the third. Wold went yard again in the fourth with a solo shot to right.
The Frogs showed life in the fourth scoring twice on RBI singles and two more Bullfrogs runs scored off a wild pitch and home run from Preston Pavlica, to take a 5-4 lead.
Wisconsin Rapids took back the lead in the sixth as Mike Rojas (Auburn) earned an RBI base hit and later scored on a fielder’s choice from Bret Fehr (SIU Edwardsville) to make it 6-5 after six.
Matt Schmidt (Michigan) brought in a run on a sac fly in the seventh, and Payton Robertson (Louisiana State Shreveport) hit an RBI double to bring in Mitch Mallek (St. Cloud State) in the eighth. Three more Rafters scored in the ninth for a six-run lead. Green Bay scored twice in the final frame, but the Rafters held them off for a 11-7 win.
Kyle Hodgson (2-0, 3.91 ERA) earned his second win of the season. Kenny Carrillo (0-2, 9.58 ERA) suffered the loss allowing the go-ahead run.
