Riverkings sign goalie with Rapids tie

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings have signed a goalie with Wisconsin Rapids ties.
Ethan Blackburn is a 6’3”, 17-year-old goalie whose father grew up in Wisconsin Rapids. He will be a junior at Lincoln High School and living with relatives this season.
Coach Quarters explained the fit saying, “Sometimes things are just meant to be. I was told by my wife that someone at work was asking about what their relative should do while looking to play junior hockey, even though at the time he was just 15 years old. At the same time, one of my former players thought his young goalie might be ready to play at our level. Turns out they were the same goalie – Ethan.
“When I spoke with his dad I had no idea he had grown up in Rapids. After doing our homework we feel the stars aligned and our staff felt Ethan was worth offering a spot because of his size, ability, and focus to succeed. We are excited to watch his development and welcome the hometown connection.”
Former Coach Quarters player, and Ethan’s Coach, Chance Creger added, “Ethan is a solid goaltender with a high ceiling. His level to compete gives him the ability to make those big time saves at the right moment and steal games. Ethan’s commitment to the game will serve the Riverkings well for years to come.”
