Local volunteer opportunities available

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The United Way of South Wood & Adams Counties is announcing the following volunteer opportunities:
State of WI Board on Aging & Long-Term Care Volunteer Ombudsman: Do you have an abundance of care and concern for the elderly? The Volunteer Ombudsman program is looking for compassionate volunteers to spend two to three hours a week at a local nursing home visiting with the residents. Ombudsman act as advocates for the residents and the “eyes and ears” of the Regional Ombudsman. You will voice any concerns the resident or their family may have and help them resolve and concerns or issues that may arise during their stay. Volunteers are provided an orientation and ongoing training. This volunteer position is very flexible and can fit around any schedule.
Lowell Center Senior Center Volunteers: The Lowell Center has many volunteer opportunity needs available ranging from receptionist to BINGO caller to cleaning. Please call the Volunteer Center to discuss or go on our website for more information.
South Wood County Humane Society Morning Animal Care: Mornings, weekends and holidays included, Humane Society staff take part in heavy cleaning at the shelter. Dogs are taken outside, kennels cleaned, given fresh bedding/water, and brought back inside. Cats are put in smaller carriers, kennels cleaned, given fresh bedding/food/water, and returned to their kennel.
Schedule is flexible. Volunteers must be 16 years old and complete an adoption application prior to beginning work.
