Rangers stay alive in Triple-A state tournament

CHIPPEWA FALLS – The Wisconsin Rapids Post 9 Rangers continue to advance in the Triple-A state tournament at Casper Park in Chippewa Falls.

The Post 9 Rangers 18U defeated Chippewa Falls 7-1 by consistently putting runs on the scoreboard on on July 26.

In the second inning, the Rangers got their offense started. Cody Bredl grounded out into a double play, scoring one run.

Caleb Krommenakker was the winning pitcher for the Rangers, he surrendered one run on five hits over six innings, striking out nine. Nathan Krommenakker threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Griffen Spindler was on the mound for Chippewa Falls. He allowed eight hits and five runs over five innings, striking out four.

Post 9 scattered ten hits in the game. Garrett Huber and Krommenakker each collected multiple hits. Krommenakker and Huber each collected two hits to lead the Rangers. Post 9 was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Josh Zwicke made the most plays with 11.
Chippewa Falls totaled five hits. Austin Sykora and Riley Freid all had multiple hits for Chippewa Falls.

Post 9 Rangers 18U fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 11-1 loss to Appleton on July 27. Appleton scored on a single by Bubba Thompson and a single by Wes Sommers in the first inning.The Rangers struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Appleton, giving up 11 runs.

Appleton got on the board in the first inning when Thompson singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.

Appleton scored four runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for Appleton came thanks to home runs by Tj Vaneperen and Will Monroe and a single by Ben Babich.

Vaneperen led things off on the hill for Appleton. He allowed two hits and one run over six innings, striking out six and walking zero.

Ethan Peters was on the pitcher’s mound. He surrendered five runs on seven hits over two innings, striking out two and walking one. Tyler Beyer and Joshua Schwalbach entered the game as relief, throwing two innings and one and two-thirds innings respectively.

Post 9 hit one home run on the day. Gabe Zwicke had a dinger in the third inning.

Zwicke and Josh Zwicke each collected one hit to lead the Rangers.

Post 9 took the victory against Oconomowoc on June 28 to the tune of 8-3. The Rangers got on the board in the first inning when Donovan Brandl hit a solo homer.

The team notched four runs in the second inning. Post 9 Rangers 18U batters contributing to the big inning included Cody Bredl and Gabe Zwicke, all driving in runs in the inning.

Brandl was credited with the victory for Post 9. He allowed four hits and three runs over six and a third innings, striking out eight. Bredl threw two-thirds of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Jacob Arndt started the game for Oconomowoc. He surrendered five runs on four hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Miller Wallace threw four and a third innings out of the bullpen.

Brandl had a home run. Zwicke, Brandl, and Caleb Krommenakker each racked up multiple hits for Post 9. Krommenakker, Brandl, and Zwicke each collected two hits.

The Rangers play again on July 29 at 7:30 p.m. at Casper Park in Chippewa Falls.
