Local groups team up to bring Santa to radio

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Amateur radio operators from central Wisconsin are teaming up with the Buckley Baldwin VFW Post No. 2534 in Wisconsin Rapids to bring Santa Claus to all children – old and young – through the magic of radio.
On Dec. 21, 1-5 p.m., the Buckley-Baldwin post will host an open house along with members of Wood County Amateur Radio Emergency Services/Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services (ARES/RACES) at the VFW Post, 2711 Reddin Rd., Wisconsin Rapids.
Members of the ARES/RACES team will be contacting Santa by radio from the North Pole, so children of all ages can call in their last-minute requests to Santa while he’s at his North Pole shop. Other residents of the North Pole will also be available on the radio to help Santa answer questions and spread Christmas cheer.
The event is open to everyone and refreshments will be available.
