Marshfield hockey beats Wisconsin Rapids

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Marshfield High School boys hockey team beat Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School 4-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference showdown at the South Wood County Recreation Center on Dec. 11.
Josh Gruen scored 1:06 into the game on an assist from Ben Lawyer to give Marshfield a 1-0 lead, and Dom Lange had a goal on assists from Nick Urban and Noah Peterson with six seconds left in the first period to increase the lead to 2-0.
Ian Haugen scored at 9:51 of the second period on an assist from Peterson to make it 3-0, which it remained until Trevor Vilbaum scored 2:30 into the third period on an assist from Gibson Benz to bring the Red Raiders within 3-1.
However, Urban scored on an assist from Payton Smith with 5:10 remaining in regulation to cap the scoring on Marshfield’s 4-1 win.
AJ Trierweiler made 11 saves for the Tigers, while Torger Stachurski had 54 saves for Rapids.
