Assumption girls move onto regional semifinals

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Assumption girls basketball team hosted Athens on Feb. 25 and won the game to move onto the Division 5 regional semifinals.

The Assumption team had an early lead and took that into halftime with a commanding 31-10 edge.

Athens second half went better as they were only outscored by eight points.

Assumption won the game 56-27. Athens allowed 20 turnovers in the game, contributing to the loss.

Leading the Royals on the court was Jessie Grundhoffer, who totaled 19 points. Emily Bohn added 11 points and brought down 10 rebounds.

Athens’ Allison Wolf and Crystal Dearth led the Bluejays with eight points each. Elizabeth Van Rixel pulled down 12 rebounds for the team.

Assumption will face Wild Rose on Feb. 28 at Wild Rose High School for the Division 5 regional semifinal game. Game time is 7 p.m.
