Rapids aquatic center to open July 6
By City Times staff
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The city of Wisconsin Rapids has now set the opening of the Wisconsin Rapids Regional Aquatics Center for July 6.
The center was previously scheduled to open on June 29, but the city’s Parks & Recreation Commission split on a decision on June 22 to postpone the opening to meet state requirements for the facility. The matter then went to Rapids’ city council on June 24, who approved the plan to delay open for one week.
Public Works Director Joe Terry said that aquatic center use will be limited to Wisconsin Rapids area residents and that COVID precautions will be followed.
The aquatic center will currently be open to residents from Wisconsin Rapids, Biron, Grand Rapids, the Ho-Chunk Nation, Nekoosa, Port Edwards, Rudolph, Saratoga, Seneca, and Sigel.
The center will also operate at half capacity – the facility is set up for an 800 plus limit that will be reduced to 400.
The center will offer a lazy river, zip line, climbing wall, grassy sun areas, bath house, concession stand, reservable shelter, splash pad, winter skating, and hockey.
