Riverkings battle for the top spot

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Riverkings traveled to Hudson Jan. 15-16, in a battle for first place against the undefeated Havoc, and returned with three out of four possible points.
Friday the boys started slow after getting off the bus, falling behind 3-1 versus a determined Hudson Havoc. The boys battled back to force an overtime, eventually losing 4-3 in a shootout. The Riverkings played hard, outshooting the Havoc 45-31, but came up short.
Saturday gave the Riverkings a chance to respond and they come up with big a 3-1 win, improving to 24-3-1-1. They handed the Havoc their first regulation loss in their own rink.
Goalie Kyle McNair made an impressive 26 saves on 27 shots.
Reece McDonald opened the scoring for the Riverkings, followed by a short-handed goal by Trey Zagrzebski. Finally, a power play goal by Nathan Bottles put the game out of reach and the Riverkings celebrated a hard fought win, to play the series decider against the Havoc.
