For the City Times
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the 2021 Rekindle the Spirit Parade Nov. 24 in Downtown Wisconsin Rapids at 5:45 p.m.
“We are saddened to hear about the tragedy that occurred in Waukesha over the weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with those in the community,” said Angel Whitehead, Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce president.
“As the Rekindle the Spirit parade quickly approaches, we want to provide a safe and fun event for the community. We are collaborating with the Wood County Sheriff’s office and the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department to ensure a continued high level of safety.”
Additional measures the Chamber will be incorporating include an increase in officers to assist with traffic directing, parade participation, and a general presence at the event.
“The Wisconsin Rapids Police Department encourages everyone who planned to come to the event to do so,” stated Erman Blevins, Police Chief for the Cityof Wisconsin Rapids. “WRPD, along with other area Law Enforcement will be in attendance to provide a safe and orderly event for all to enjoy.”
“Furthermore, with the increase in COVID-19 cases, the Chamber is recommending safe practices while attending the event with family and friends. These suggested precautions include social distancing, mask-wearing, and remaining home if feeling unwell. Additionally, participants in the parade will have limited contact with spectators,” a chamber release added.
After the parade children are welcome to visit Mr. & Mrs. Claus at McMillian Memorial Library. As an additional safety measure, these visits will be contactless.
