Wood County woman killed in crash

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — A south Wood County woman is dead, after the driver of the vehicle she was a passenger in lost control of the car. The crash occurred Sunday, Nov. 13 at 1:50 p.m. on Highway 13/34 south of County Line Road, in the township of Rudolph.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, a vehicle driven by Corey Knipple, age 46, of Wisconsin Rapids, was going south on Highway 13/34 when his vehicle began veering to the right. The vehicle entered the ditch and struck a driveway embankment causing it to go airborne, and landing upside down.
Knipple was transported to Marshfield Medical Center by ambulance with serious injuries. A passenger – Joann Knipple, age 67, of Wisconsin Rapids – was pronounced dead at the scene. A second passenger, a juvenile, was transported by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. The juvenile’s name, age and gender were not released.
Wood County Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted at the scene by Wood County Central Dispatch, Wood County Sheriff’s Rescue, Wisconsin Rapids ambulance, United Ambulance, Life Link III, Rudolph Fire Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, Aspirus Medivac and Wood County Highway Department.
Highway 13/34 was closed for several hours following the accident. The crash is being reconstructed by the State Patrol and remains under investigation. The status of the driver’s condition has not been released.
