For the City Times

Marshfield Clinic Sports Medicine will offer a summer program for high school students interested in learning more about the field of medicine through athletic training.

The student athletic training course will give instruction and hands-on experience in sports medicine and provide an understanding of injury management and protection techniques.

Students completing this course, who on their own supplement it with CPR and first aid courses, can assist licensed athletic trainers of high school sports teams during the school year.

“A student athletic trainer is under the direct supervision of a licensed athletic trainer,” said Jim Nesbit, Marshfield Clinic Sports Medicine manager. “This experience gives students the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience needed to enter any field of medicine.”

The five-week student athletic training course is taught by Marshfield Clinic athletic trainers.

Course dates for 2016 are June 21 and 28; and July 12, 19 and 26.

All classes are from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays at Nekoosa High School, 500 S. Cedar St., Nekoosa. Participants need to attend all five sessions.

The course is free and registration is required. To register, email Rebecca Armstrong at [email protected]
