News & Notes: Parks and Recreation Meeting

The Parks and Recreation Committee held their meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 31. Here are some quick noteworthy items from that meeting.

-New officers were elected to the committee. Kelly Rosecrans was elected chairperson of the committee, Alderperson Steve Koth was elected as vice chairperson, and new member and former alderperson Lee Thao was elected to the planning commission.

-The committee approved the use of $4,400 towards improvements at Robinson Park at the south baseball field. These improvements include a batting cage, painting the concession stands, added storage, and improvements to the infield.

-Witter Field will be extending their winter hours for the skating rink from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, to 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on both days. Witter Field will continue to remain open per season as weather permits.

-The Wisconsin Rapids Municipal Zoo will extend their hours to 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The zoo will continue to remain open for the season until the last Sunday in August.
