Firefighters Celebrate 50 Years of Helping Underprivileged Children
City Times Staff
The Wisconsin Rapids Firefighters Association (WRFA) will celebrate 50 years of bringing holiday joy to others this month.
They will kick off its 50th annual Toy Project to collect gifts and clothing to assist needy children in the community in time for the coming holiday.
The association works closely with local school counselors, social workers, along with members of SWEPS and the Grand Rapids Lions Club to assist underprivileged children. Collections this year will be focused on collecting toys for age ranges 4-11 years old.
The WRFA will also accept gift certificates and monetary donations. Last year, the total amount donated by local businesses and residents reached over $3,950 dollars. There is a GoFundMe account for anyone who would like to donate to the cause.
In addition, the WRFA will be working with the ‘Caring Closet’, which provides clothing for underprivileged children. The ‘Caring Closet’ accepts donations, and is currently looking for all clothing in new, or ‘like new’ condition for youth sizes.
The Toy Project collection is already underway, and will be slated to end on Dec. 19. You can drop off donations at Wisconsin Rapids Fire Station 1, located at 1511 12th St. South, or Wisconsin Rapids Fire Station 2, located at 1641 W. Grand Ave.
