Update: Snowmobile Trails to Remain Closed

For the City Times
By Sandra Green, Wood County Snowmobile/ATV Trail Coordinator
Due to the loss of coverage over the last 48 hours, the decision has been made by the majority of the Wood County Snowmobile Clubs and the Wood County Coordinator that all snowmobile trails will continue to remain closed with the exception of the trails maintained by the Kellner Knights which will open as planned at 8:00 a.m. on Dec. 23.
Many snowmobile enthusiasts are rushing to take their first ride of the season, however, there are many areas of open water throughout Wood County, as well as many areas of the ground still showing. Opening the trails is not in anyone’s best interest at this point and will only cause more damage.
The forecast calls for some light freezing rain and then some light snow throughout the weekend.
The Wood County Park and Forestry Department will reevaluate the condition of all the trails next week and make a decision on when to reconsider the opening of the trail system. Remaining closed will allow for the incoming weather to supply us with an adequate amount of snow to help form a good, solid base which is crucial to both maintaining and prolonging the riding season. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Check the Wood County Park & Forestry Department Facebook Page or the county website for more opening and closure information. Thank you, and happy holidays.
