WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Local police have announced a program that promotes safety among community youth.

“Caught Being Safe” is a program run by the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department which kicks off this summer. “Caught Being Safe” will reward children in the community for making smart and safe decisions such as wearing their bike helmet, crossing the street in the crosswalk, wearing their life jacket, using bike lights, or a number of other safe practices that are observed.

Patrol Officers with the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department will be on the lookout for children who are making these safe decisions and handing out coupons for various treats that have been donated by local businesses. In addition to those wearing a bike helmet, officers will have bike helmets in their vehicles to be given to those youth in need.

Businesses that helped make this program possible are Salt & Peper Drive-In, Dairy Queen, Rocky Rococo, Dairy Treat, McDonald’s and Culver’s.
