‘Choose to Re-Use’ Program in Grand Rapids May 20
For the City Times
Clean out your basement and garage — the Town of Grand Rapids is hosting Choose to Re-Use this Saturday, May 20.
The event takes place at the Grand Rapids’ Town Garage, 2811 Two Mile Ave. from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. It’s open to all community members, regardless of which municipality you live in.
Choose to Re-Use is an event where town residents bring items that they want to discard, but that perhaps someone else can use (e.g. outdoor furniture, small working and nonworking appliances, lawn care items, household goods, seasonal decorations, office equipment, CDs/DVDs, etc.).
You may take any item that you can use. There is no charge to take an item and you don’t have to bring items in order to take something away.
Hundreds of people use Choose to Re-Use by dropping off and/or taking home items. People bring furniture, fishing poles, bikes, lawnmowers, chairs, tables, books clothes, and more.
Some items may be charged a fee to discard. They include:
Tires – 15” and below $3, 16”-19” – $4, and 20” – 24” $8, larger size negotiable. Printers, Desktop Copiers, Scanners $5; Non-TV LCD computers monitors – $20; CRT/picture tubes TV’s & Monitors under 27” $25; LCD TVs under 27” $25;CRT/picture tubes TV’s OVER 27” $40; LCD TVs 27” – 49” $40; Wood console TVs & Projection TVs, LCD TVs over 49” $55.
Free disposal of car batteries, oil, washers and dryers, refrigerators and microwaves and other large metal items. Computers, stereos and other electronic equipment are also available for free disposal. Please do not bring in paint and chemicals, as we are not equipped to handle this.
The objective of Choose to Re-Use is simple: reduce the amount of solid waste that fills our landfills and help someone in the process. Come and join the fun, clean up your homes, and gain other “treasures” free of charge.
