Jerome A. Stelzer, age 68, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away unexpectedly at his cabin in northern Wisconsin on Wednesday, November 14, 2018.

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home.  Father Valentine Joseph will officiate. Full military honors will be conducted following the memorial service. Visitation for family and friends will be on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. and again on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the funeral service at the funeral home.

Jerry was born April 21, 1950 in Wisconsin Rapids to Joseph and Genevieve (VanDeLoop) Stelzer.  He graduated from Assumption High School in 1968.  From December 1969 to November 1971, Jerry proudly served our country in the Army. He was stationed in Germany during that time and received the National Defense Service Medal.  A few years later, he married Debra Schmidt on May 25, 1974 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. They enjoyed 44 wonderful years of marriage. Jerry retired as a millwright in 2012 from Domtar after 44 years with the company.

Jerry was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with his family, and playing with his grandchildren. Jerry especially liked spending time at his cabin and land in northern Wisconsin. He was very resourceful and inventive and could fix anything. Jerry always had his toolbox with him and could produce nearly any tool that anyone needed.

He was very generous, giving both of himself and his time. Jerry was a compassionate man who always had time to say hello or stop and chat with anyone who crossed his path. He is loved and will be deeply missed. Online condolences may be expressed at www.taylorfuneralhome.net.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Debbie; his children: Jeff (Shelley) Stelzer of Elkhorn, WI, Lisa (Nick) Blanchard of Grand Junction, CO, Ryan (Stacey) Stelzer of Lake Geneva, WI, and Amy (Bryan) Stueck of Sun Prairie, WI; his grandchildren: Alex (Jenna) Albright, Mason and Owen Stelzer, Lucas and Carson Blanchard, and Makenna Stueck; his siblings: Jeanne Peterson of Burlington Flats, NY, Larry (Judy) Stelzer of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Delores (Gary) Majkowski of Rhinelander, WI, Linda (Jerry) Bruesewitz of Ladysmith, WI, Mike (Patty) Stelzer of Denver, NC, Joe (Camille) Stelzer of Colfax, WI, Terry (Diane) Stelzer of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Mary Beth (Terry) Tomsyck of Winter, WI, and Lori (Dave) Schlegel of Janesville, WI; his brother-in-law, Rhody Hoerter of Glendale, WI; his sister-in-law, Kelli Stelzer of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
