Port Edwards finds balanced scoring in first conference win

PORT EDWARDS – On Dec. 4, the Port Edwards girls basketball team started their conference season in a match-up with the Almond-Bancroft Eagles, and the Blackhawks came out on top with a victory, 50-39.

Port Edwards was up at half by nine points, with a score of 31-22, and the Eagles couldn’t get much closer than that in the second half. The Blackhawks had a balanced scoring attack, with Kaitlyn Lyp leading the way with 14 points, followed by Jade Martin with 11, Krystal Rzepka added nine points. Taylor Martin had eight, Brynna Hawk contributed seven, and Kara Rzepka had one point.  The Blackhawks connected on one three pointer by T. Martin and was nine for 17 from the free throw line.

Almond-Bancroft also had a balanced scoring night, led by Angela Rogers with 10 points. Chloee Dernbach had nine points, Melissa Perzinski and Michaela Stucker each added eight, followed by Makayla Perzinski with three and Carlee Lamb with one.  The Eagles had two three-pointers, one each by the Perzinski twins.  Almond-Bancroft was 11 for 21 from the charity stripe.
