WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Brett Back, a Wisconsin Rapids eighth grader, was recognized as a member of the 2019 USA Wrestling 14U National Teams in Folkstyle, Freestyle, and Greco. He also made USA wrestling’s 14U Future Olympian Rankings list by finishing in the top five for his age group. Brett is ranked 11th overall in the nation and first at 125 pounds.
Brett was a 2019 Greco National Champion and a National Runner-up in Freestyle in the 14U division at the National Championships held in Wisconsin Dells. Back also finished third at post-season Folkstyle Nationals in Cedar Falls, IA.
When asked what he enjoys most about wrestling, Brett said it’s “the intensity and the sacrifices needed to be number one. The need to always be hungry on the mat in a way indescribable. That makes me want to come back for more.”
Brett has trained as a member of the Wisconsin Rapids Middle School wrestling team, and with former Olympian and National Champion wrestler Dennis Hall, for the past six years, at World Gold Wrestling club in Wisconsin Rapids.
“All Brett’s hard work is starting to pay off for him. I am very proud of him on and off the mat. He is on his way to where he wants to be,” Hall said.
Brett returns to the mat for the USA Wrestling Preseason National tournament in Des Moines, IA, Oct 25-27.
