Nekoosa/Assumption/Port Edwards wrestlers roll to sectionals

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – The Nekoosa/Assumption/Port Edwards wrestling team will send four wrestlers to sectionals, after participating in Division 2 regionals in Waupaca on Feb. 15.

Blaze Thurber (120) is NAPE’s sole regional champion, after defeating Logan Johnson in the championship match with a 7-1 decision.

Also moving on is Nathan Gellerup (113), Hunter Boudreau (195), and James Schaefbauer (285), who all placed second.

Other wrestlers participating in regional competition for the NAPE wrestling team were: Tarren Hoffman (106), who placed fifth; Gavin Hall (126), who took fourth; Hunter Ebbe (132), who placed sixth; Juan Torres (138) did not place; Klayton Havlovic (145) finished fourth; Sawyer Kniprath (152) placed fourth; Ben Elsen (182) placed third; and Hudson Goodwin (220) placed fourth.

As a team, the NAPE wrestler finished third at the regional event with a score of 143.5. Regional team champions were Tomahawk, who had 262 points; and second place went to Wittenberg-Birnamwood, with 198.5 points.

The WIAA Division 2 sectionals will be held in Oconto Falls on Feb. 22.
