Milwaukee assailants apprehended in Wood County

FOR CITY TIMES
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Two suspects who shot at Milwaukee police from a stolen car were eventually tracked down and arrested in Wood County.
The nearly-weeklong pursuit culminated Jan. 11, with the arrests of Afrishawn Dedrick, 21, and Tyshe’onna Jones, 21, in the Wood County Town of Grand Rapids.
Milwaukee police first attempted to apprehend Dedrick and Jones during the early morning hours of Jan. 6, when they were involved in a car chase using a vehicle the two allegedly stole from West Bend. During the pursuit, Dedrick and Jones apparently began shooting at officers who were giving chase. A police supervisor eventually called off the pursuit. The car was eventually recovered in Milwaukee, but no one was inside.
On Jan. 11, Milwaukee Police Department detectives contacted the Wood County Sheriff’s Department’s Investigations Division, after developing information on two individuals within Wood County in connection to the shooting and vehicle pursuit. The two agencies worked together to pinpoint and locate the Wood County residence where Dedrick and Jones were staying.
Shortly before 1 p.m. on Jan. 11, Special Response teams from the Wood County Sheriff’s Department and Marshfield and Wisconsin Rapids Police Departments joined with members of the Grand Rapids and Milwaukee Police Departments to execute a search warrant to apprehend Dedrick and Jones. They were transported to the Milwaukee County Jail.
“This is a good example of a joint investigation between multiple agencies throughout the state of Wisconsin,” Wood County Sheriff Shawn Becker said, in a Jan. 13 press release. “It was impressive to see how smoothly the largest law enforcement agency in the state worked with local agencies here in central Wisconsin. The sizes of the departments may be drastically different, but it was clear that we all have the same goal to serve our communities.”
Dedrick and Jones had fired at least a dozen shots at Milwaukee police during the initial pursuit, according to surveillance video. The area is on the border of Milwaukee and Wauwatosa. The suspects were pulled over initially, but the driver took off speeding recklessly through the streets once officers approached the vehicle. No one was injured.
