Assumption Football Returns to Winning Form

After a disappointing homecoming loss to McDonell Central last Friday, the Assumption Royals varsity football team returned to their winning form with a 33-7 victory over the Newman Catholic Fighting Cardinals on October 10.
The Royals’ record improves to 6-2 and the Fighting Cardinals drop to 2-6.
Assumption’s senior running back Brady Baltus took the Royals to a quick lead with two successive touchdowns at the end of the first quarter. With two minutes left in the first, Baltus ran for a two yard TD and a failed two-point conversion attempt brought the score to 6-0. Baltus took the ball 68 yards for another score at 0:24 in the first, bringing the score to 12-0.
Newman’s only score came at 3:40 in the second quarter after a five yard TD pass to senior tight end Terek Glenetski.
A 13 yard TD pass to senior TE Nathaniel Clark brought the halftime score to 20-7.
Senior QB Isaac Kollock ran a 68 yard TD at 1:44 in the third quarter and a 58 yard TD pass to senior RB Jon Trickey brought the score to it’s final 33-7.
Baltus led the Royals offense with 128 rushing yards followed by Kollock with 113 and Trickey with 93. The Royals totaled 483 total offensive yards while the Fighting Cardinals trailed with 204.
The Royals travel to take on the Owen-Withee High School Blackhawks on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7 PM for their final game of regular season play.
