A Wisconsin Rapids man faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted of felony charges after allegedly sexually assaulting the same child repeatedly.

John Butler III, 26, made his initial appearance in Branch 2 of Wood County Circuit Court on September 14 on charges he allegedly assaulted a 13-year-old girl on multiple occasions. If convicted, Butler could see a maximum sentence of up to 40 year imprisonment, up to $100,000 in fines or both.

He is also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a child, a misdemeanor with a maximum sentence of nine month imprisonment, a $10,000 fine or both.

According to court documents, a Wisconsin Rapids police officer spoke with the 13-year-old female victim claiming Butler had sexual intercourse with her on three separate occasions. On each occasion, twice in March of 2015 and once in June, Butler would arrive at the victim’s residence late at night with alcohol and energy drinks, which they allegedly consumed prior to having sexual intercourse. On one occasion, the girl claims Butler also had marijuana with him, which the victim said they smoked together.

The victim reported no struggle or forced intercourse by Butler.

While they investigated the victim’s cell phone, police also found a Snapchat conversation between herself and and Butler, where she said Butler should, “have sex with someone else”.

Bulter replied to the comment by telling the girl he only wanted to have sex with her, and advised her to delete the conversation or he would get in trouble.

Butler is currently free on a $10,000 signature bond is to have no contact with the victim or her residence.

His next court appearance has not yet been scheduled.
