A 37-year-old man has been charged with intimidation and repeated domestic abuse after police say he threatened harm to a family member.
Chad Devore, of Wisconsin Rapids, is charged with felony intimidation, repeat domestic abuse, and criminal damage to property.
According to police reports, on Feb. 19, an officer was dispatched to the 700 block of 23rd St. North regarding a report of a domestic disturbance. The officer spoke with the complainant who used to live with Devore and stated that she allowed Devore to stay with her for a few days.
Early that day the complainant was on the phone, and Devore accused her of seeing another man and became angry. Devore allegedly banged his head into the pantry door, making a hole, and then grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed himself in the chest and arm.
The complainant tried phoning for help multiple times, but Devore took her phone, preventing this from happening. Devore also allegedly blocked the front door, preventing the complainant from leaving.
According to the complainant, Devore said he would kill himself and stated “maybe I should kill us both”. The complainant eventually escaped and called police.
If convicted, Devore faces up to 10 years imprisonment and up to $25,000 in fines. His pre-trial conference is scheduled for Apr. 15.
