Local Church to Serve Community on Sept. 11
By Joe Bachman
A Wisconsin Rapids Church will take part in a nationwide day of service in efforts to help the community on Sept. 11.
First English Lutheran Church (FELC) will be taking part in this initiative that will see a morning of worship replaced with a morning of service. Some of these services include taking treats to police and firefighters, cleaning up the Boys & Girls Club, visiting nursing and assisted living homes, and making blankets for kids.
The church will also be dedicating part of this day to the Family Center, painting a room and cleaning the playground equipment. This is the church’s second year taking part in this.
The group of nearly 60 people will meet at 8:00 a.m. and will split up to serve the community on what will be the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. They will be wearing God’s Work, Our Hands t-shirts throughout their community services.
“It’s a chance for people to take their faith past the four walls of the church,” said FELC Pastor Cheryl Davis. “– to serve the neighbor rather than ourselves, because it’s really easy to get comfortable just being in church.”
There are still many openings, and if interested please call 715-423-2840. First English Lutheran Church is located at 440 Garfield St. in Wisconsin Rapids.
