A 19-year-old Nekoosa man has been charged with an attempted Valentine’s Day robbery.

According to police reports, on Feb. 14 law enforcement was dispatched to a residence on the 1400 block of Church Ave. in the Town of Saratoga regarding the report of an assault.

The complainant stated that earlier that day he went for a walk down 24th Ave. During his walk, he was confronted by two individuals —  a teenager, (name withheld) and a man later identified as Antonio Brown. Both men allegedly demanded the complainant to “give them everything he had”. They asked for his jacket, shoes, and forced him to empty his pockets.

Soon after the two forced the complainant to the ground and started to strike him in the ribs, face, and the back of the head. The complainant believed he was hit over 20 times during the attempted robbery, even though he had nothing on him at the time. He would receive a minor concussion from the assault.

Later that day, one of the two made Facebook posts stating that he was in an altercation with the victim. Police made contact with Brown, who initially believed they met with the victim just to talk.

Brown told police that his only involvement in the assault was that he shoved the the complainant to the ground and kicked snow at the man before leaving the scene.

If convicted, Brown faces up to 21 years imprisonment and up to $50,000 in fines for robbery with use of force, and substantial battery. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 10.
