For the City Times

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – On Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, the community will come together to “Stuff the School Bus” with donations of school supplies so students in need can start the school year right this fall.

Stuff the School Bus will take place during Lunch By The River from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Park, Wisconsin Rapids.  There will be an alternate rain location at Witter Field (Rafters tented area).

Local businesses, organizations and churches are holding school supply drives from now until Aug. 3. Individuals who wish to donate school supplies can drop their items off at one of our locations (visituwiw.org and click “Events”) or bring them along to Lunch By The River on August 3.

Top donation needs include:  backpacks, notebooks (plain colors), folders (plain colors), colored pencils, markers, calculators, water colors, and rulers.

Monetary donations are also accepted, and will be used to purchase additional supplies.  Checks can be written to “Stuff the Bus/Stuff the Desk” and mailed to “Stuff the Bus/Stuff the Desk,” c/o United Way of Inner Wisconsin, 351 Oak Street, Wisconsin Rapids, WI  54494.

Volunteers are also needed to:  help sort donations on Aug. 3 during Lunch By The River; to unload the bus, sort and assemble backpacks on Aug. 17; and to distribute backpacks to students on Aug. 19.  To volunteer, call Amy Fluno at 715-421-0390 or sign up online at www.volunteerinnerwisc.org.
