Red Raiders Roll to Second Straight Win

City Times Staff
MARSHFIELD — In the battle for first place in the Valley West Conference, it was the Red Raiders who edged out a close win against the Marshfield Tigers on Friday night.
While Isaac Pelot continued his impressive consistent play with over 100 yards rushing on the night, the heroics came from junior tailback Nash Coombs. Coombs opened up the game with a 35-yard touchdown run to put Lincoln up 7-0. After a Marshfield response from Ryan Krueger, a missed 2-point conversion put the game at 7-6 heading into halftime.
The squads would trade scores throughout the second half, including a touchdown from wideout Isaiah Westfall, which would be his only catch on the night. Justin Wefel led the Raiders in receiving on the night along with a touchdown of his own. Still, with just over four minutes left in the game, it was tied up at 21-a-piece — that is, until Nash Coombs stepped in.
Out of seemingly nowhere, Coombs broke off a 74-yard touchdown run to put Lincoln up 28-21, which would hold as the final, as the Red Raiders pick up their second straight win. The running game is strong with the Red Raiders, as they put up nearly 300 yards on the ground for the night.
They now sit alone in first place in the Valley West Conference, and will end their four-game road trip next Friday as they head to Wausau to take on Wausau West.
