United Way Volunteer Opportunity Column for Week of Feb. 14

United Way of Inner Wisconsin’s Volunteer Center promotes the volunteer needs of local non-profit organizations in both south Wood and Adams Counties on a weekly basis. Here is how you can get involved and volunteer for these great organizations.
ODC-Social Media Volunteer: Purpose: The position of the Social Media Volunteer serves to enhance the ability of Public Relations to keep our social media sites up to date and relevant, supporting the organization’s mission to empower people with disabilities to achieve their work and life goals. The Social Media volunteer is a representative of ODC and shares our vision and values when serving as a volunteer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Write articles about events, activities, or successes about ODC employees
- Post relevant stories on both the Facebook page and Twitter
- Create event invitations and pages for ODC sponsored events
Quilting Volunteer: Purpose: The purpose of The Quilt Project volunteer is to assist in engaging clients on the basic knowledge and tools needed to create a quilt square for a quilting around the world project. Volunteers enhance the ability of Day Services to share in ODC’s mission to empower people with disabilities to achieve their work and life goals. When serving as a Day Services volunteer you become a part of sharing in ODC’s exciting vision and values.
Key Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the quilt project volunteer will be to assist day services clients in gathering fabric by color choices, cutting, creating designs, and sewing together a quilt square.
Day Services Volunteer: Purpose: The position of the Day Services Volunteer serves to enhance the ability of Day Services to keep our clients engaged in a variety of activities, supporting the organization’s mission to empower people with disabilities to achieve their work and life goals. The Day Services Volunteer is a representative of ODC and shares our vision and values when serving as a volunteer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist staff or lead small groups or one-on-one activities and classes
- Get participants involved and engaged in the fun and social activities
- Offer a form of companionship to the clients
- Teach clients something that you are interested in such as music, gardening, pet therapy, exercise, etc.
Pet Therapy Volunteer: Purpose: The position of the Day Services Pet Therapy Volunteer serves to enhance the ability of Day Services to keep our clients engaged in a variety of activities such as pet therapy, supporting the organization’s mission to empower people with disabilities to achieve their work and life goals. The Day Services Pet Therapy Volunteer is a representative of ODC and shares our vision and values when serving as a volunteer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clients the opportunity to experience animal assisted activity/therapy
- Teach clients about pet
- Willingness to have animal around people with disabilities
- Let clients participate in working with animal, i.e. petting, combing, etc.
