WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Two residents face drug charges after a routine traffic stop turned into much more.

According to police reports, on Feb. 9, a man seen driving from the 1200 block of High St. without his taillights on was eventually stopped by police. The driver was identified as 22-year-old Tra Varius Johnson. His passenger was identified as 20-year-old Breana Brandl.

After police initiated a K-9 search of the perimeter and vehicle, they would find drug paraphernalia, as well as four gem baggies containing methamphetamine, inside a bag held by Brandl. Brandl claims that she was told to hold the bag by Johnson, as he didn’t believe police would search her.

An additional pipe, as well as two gem baggies of methamphetamine were found in Johnson’s jacket. Text messages received by Brandl from Johnson allegedly reveal that Johnson had asked Brandl to sell methamphetamine with her, to which she told police she said “no.”

If convicted of possession of amphetamines with intent to sell, as well as bail jumping, Johnson faces up to 16 years imprisonment and additional fines. Brandl faces a lesser charge of possession and could face up to three years and six months imprisonment.

Their next date in court is set for Feb. 19.
